Creating Joyful Experiences and Building Relationships across Weston

26 March 2026

Louise has joined the Super Culture team as an Associate Community Producer. The role has been made possible through funding from the Without Walls Associate Programme.

Without Walls supports Outdoor Arts across the UK the Associate Programme invests in Producers who are developing more inclusive ways for people to engage with culture and festivals in public spaces.

We caught up with Louise to find out more about what she is up to, how her work is connecting more people with our Festivals and creating joyful experiences in Weston.

Tell us who you are and what your background is

My name is Louise. I work as a Community Producer with Super Culture. My role is about building relationships across Weston and helping more people feel confident stepping into outdoor arts, festivals and cultural events.

I moved to Weston from London some years ago and it has really become home. I am proud of our town and the communities that make it what it is.

My background spans health, education and community work. I deliver training on learning disabilities and autism and I care deeply about bringing lived experience into research, training and community conversations. Creativity has always been part of my life too. I write spoken word and I am interested in how arts and culture can help people connect with each other and the places they live.

What have you been up to this week?

This week has mostly been about conversations and planning.

I have been meeting community groups across Weston including church groups like RCCG, women’s groups and people involved in men’s mental health groups. A big part of my role is listening and understanding what might help people feel comfortable taking part in festivals and outdoor arts events. Sometimes that means sitting with a group and talking through what a festival might feel like, or helping someone picture themselves attending for the first time.

Alongside these conversations, I have been working with local collaborators to develop activities that help people engage with Weston’s outdoor spaces through creativity and wellbeing. This includes outdoor wellbeing sessions led by Vanessa Otoo, creative poetry work with young people alongside poet Jaidah McDill, and conversations with Dorcas Nwokoma about how AfriFest Weston and other community events might connect with Super Culture and University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust’s Weston Arts and Health Festival later in the year.

Some of the current activities are supported through funding from Mendip Hills National Landscape programme, which helps create opportunities for a great diversity of people to enjoy the nature on their doorstep.

One of the things I am working towards this year is the Whirligig International Festival of Outdoor Arts in the summer, where I hope to support more marginalised groups in Weston to feel part of and to experience the amazing outdoor work that will be happening there, especially through Super Culture’s new Festival Club project.

Who would you like to communicate with but have not reached yet?

I would love to build stronger relationships with communities I have had less opportunity to connect with so far.

In particular, I would like to develop relationships with the Muslim community in Weston and to connect more with our LGBTQ community locally.

I am also interested in building relationships further across North Somerset. It would be great to connect with communities and organisations in places like Clevedon, Nailsea and Portishead and explore how people from across the area might engage with Weston’s outdoor arts and festivals.

I am always happy to hear from people with ideas, collaborations or questions about how to get involved. My aim is simple. I would love more people in Weston to feel that our festivals and outdoor arts spaces belong to them.

If anyone from these communities would like to connect or start a conversation about how we might work together, please get in touch:
