Reflections on a Night of Inkblots and Movement
10 March 2026
The team at Super Culture enjoys seeking out venues in which to host our events, and, truly, this town is full of surprises! Nestled amongst Weston’s backstreets, and known by many of the younger generation, is The Electric Banana, a nightclub that proved to be a winner with our dance audiences recently.
Thanks to our partnership with Rural Touring Dance Initiative (RTDI), we were thrilled to welcome another sold out dance performance on February 19, this time with a double bill by Ekleido at the town’s popular night spot. And, working together with young people studying both performing and visual arts at Weston College, in a project made possible through funding by the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority (WEMCA), we presented an evening with a difference.
Hannah and Faye from professional dance company Ekleido hosted a two day intensive at the College, where the professional duo coached Performing Arts students, supported by Dance Captain, Abi, and the College’s Company Manager, Emma.
Then, full of confidence, a dozen young people from Weston College raised their game as they took to the Electric Banana stage – twisting, turning and captivating the audience in a very impressive and heartfelt dance, paying testament to the talent that we have right here in Weston!
Art students were instrumental in setting the scene at the venue: inspired by the title of Ekleido’s second performance, students Eva and Krystal decorated the venue with symmetrical, abstract inkblot (Rorshach) art, and they then invited us all to make our own similar art at a dedicated workshop before the performances.
Ekleido’s Splice and Rorshach are dances so intricate and beautiful that we were hypnotised – the mesmerising pieces pushed the boundaries of movement by the human body and the flowing connection between Eklido’s dancers, who have received 4 stars in national reviews, was a joy to watch – at times they seemed to move as a single entity.
The night ended exactly as it should – with a collective dance lesson in Voguing by Ekleido that saw the whole audience throwing shapes from their seats and having fun. This was followed by club-inspired magic spilling off the stage and onto the dance floor, with DJ Charlie Knight and Ben Kercher (Super Massive) on the decks, turning the Electric Banana into one big celebration of movement.
