Julie
I am lucky to have enjoyed a career in the PR industry that spans more than three decades. My first job in arts marketing at Swansea Grand Theatre led to joining the press and marketing department at Bristol Old Vic. This was followed by wide-ranging experience in the PR agency world before a freelance career of over 20 years beckoned, alongside raising a family complete with Collie dogs!
Bristol Harbour Festival, Bath International Music Festival, Royal Bath & West Show, ActionAid UK and Wallace & Gromit’s Grand Appeal are just some of the organisations I have worked on behalf of delivering high profile pr campaigns.
For the Grand Appeal, I managed press work for initiatives including the Gromit Unleashed sculpture trail and led the award-winning media campaign for the Cots for Tots Appeal, which in just over a year raised £1million for the special care baby unit at St Michael’s Hospital in Bristol – a very proud moment. It is so rewarding to bring this charity experience to partnerships within Super Culture including the ‘Arts + Health’ and ‘Good Grief Weston’ Festivals.
I grew up near the Gower coast and working in Weston brings me happily back to the seaside (where ice cream and chips are a welcome occupational hazard!) I am not only blown away by the sometimes blustery beach weather but by the wealth of creative talent that exists in the area and the exceptional artists we work with. I’m always amazed to see months of behind the scenes team work come to fruition and magically unfold in festivals, events and experiences for everyone to enjoy.
In my spare time, I enjoy get togethers with friends and family, cooking up seasonal treats from the allotment, soaking up the words of others on the radio, at the cinema or theatre and escaping to a Cornish field to curl up in a caravan with a stack of good books!
