About
What does a carbon neutral North Somerset look like to you?
The Picture This art competition is run by North Somerset Council in partnership with Culture Weston. The Picture This campaign invites local people of all ages, but particularly children and young people, to create art that imagines a net zero carbon future for North Somerset. A future where we have adapted to use low carbon technologies and be more resilient to a future climate
In net zero carbon communities, greenhouse gas emissions are reduced as close to zero as possible, with the small amount which remains being removed from the atmosphere, for example by planting trees, to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
We’re looking for artworks in all forms, including drawings, poems, songs and creative writing, which focus on what is possible and achievable to address the challenge of climate change and create a better world for our future.
The Picture This art competition, which is open to all ages, runs until 30 September. Winners will be featured in a public exhibition planned for the Sovereign Centre in Weston-super-Mare this autumn and then go on tour around the area.

What happens to entries?
During the competition entries will be shared on this website and social media. So please share digital copies where possible – if it’s a photo of an actual drawing that’s fine too.
Entries we receive will be displayed on an online gallery. In Autumn 2021, artworks will go through to a judging panel where winners will be chosen based on their creativity and ability to engage people in thinking about zero carbon futures. The final artwork and other selected entries will be displayed in public spaces around North Somerset during Autumn and Winter 2021 to raise awareness of COP26 in Glasgow, taking place during November.
