Weston Arts + Health Festival: Festival Hub (Sunday)

The Arts + Health Festival hub is a large stretch tent on Weston’s sea front. Throughout the weekend (Friday-Sunday) the hub offers a wide range of creative activities designed to foster connection through creativity.

Sunday 11 July

Portraits of Weston, 10.00am-4.00pm

Have your portrait taken and share your story to play a part in this community-created photography exhibition with South West Heritage Trust.

Cloudbathing with House of Figs, 9.15am-10.00am

A refreshing nature-inspired soundbath of spoken and sung voices with Beth Calverley (Poet in Residence at Bristol NHS Group) and Beth Roberts (Musician in Residence at Bristol NHS Group). This is a gentle, live-in-the-moment experience, guided by Beth & Beth – a trip through clouds to imagined places that embody a sense of calm. Simply lie back, relax and have your inner landscape soothed by their beautiful words and harmonies.

Relaxed Hour in the Tent, 10.00am-11.00am

Gentle activities without background music for those who seek a quiet environment.

Dream-Catching workshop, 10.00am-12.00pm

Come along and make a colourful dream-catcher in a workshop facilitated by BA creative therapeutic practice student Daisy.

Nettle Cordage Making (and Nettle tea!), 10.00am -12.00pm

Explore the material, magical, and medicinal qualities of nettles in this hands-on nettling workshop with Weston-based artist Sam Francis  – discover how to ‘take out the sting and put back the zing!’

Weaving with Jo Sinclair, 10.00am-11.30am, Drop-in

Join the Hospital’s artist-in-residence to create communal large-scale weavings in the great outdoors.

Sofra Brunch with Global Kitchen, 12.00pm-1.00pm, drop-in

Join Global Kitchen for a shared sit-down Sunday Brunch, middle-eastern style.   Expect the usual amazing flavours from Weston’s favourite cooking collective, created by Loves and Refugees Welcome North Somerset.

Music and Connection with Beth Roberts, 12.00pm-1.00pm, drop-in

A special festival set, woven together by the theme of connection, including some original compositions inspired by Beth’s work as UHBW Musician-in-Residence.

Kite Making, 1.00pm–4.00pm

Get the afternoon off to a flying start and make your own kite with a bit of help from Jo, the hospital’s artist-in-residence, and Bristol College’s creative therapy students.

Weston JarSquad, 1.00pm-3.00pm

JarSquad turns surplus food into tasty ferments, pickles, jams and preserves using surplus ingredients, collective know-how, and shared effort. At the Festival we will be making sauerkraut amongst other delicious things.

Birnbeck Precious Plastics, 1.00pm-4.00pm, drop-in

Find out how beach plastics are being repurposed by this initiatve fro the pioneering charity, Birnbeck Regernation Trust, and who have recently taken up residence in their new Loo-vre home close to the Old Pier (opposite Captain’s Cabin).

Toddler Who Came To Tea, 2.00pm- 4.00pm check if drop-in

An intergenerational tea party brought to us by Alive Activities, without a tiger in sight.  Roaring fun for everyone!

Sound Bowls with Tenzin Sangmo , 3.00pm-4.00pm

A warm and relaxing session of Tibetan chanting and singing with artist Tenzin Sangmo.

Hot Chocolate Wind-Down, 5.00pm-5.30pm
Warm up after your swim with a comforting hot chocolate, kindly provided by the community team at Alliance Homes.  Stay for a relaxed end-of-day catch-up and let us know how you enjoyed the festival.
