Social Scaffolding Art Collective Exhibition
Social Scaffolding Art Collective is bringing an exhibition of immersive, interactive and participatory art to The Sovereign (next to Card Factory) on High Street in Weston-super-Mare, supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
The exhibition is free to attend and will be open to the public from the 20th May to 4th June, Thursdays to Saturdays between 11am and 4pm, with an extra day on the 29th May for the bank holiday.
Visitors can become a Living Sculpture in Lou Baker’s quirky knitted, wearable sculptures, or contribute to the growing immersive Social Knitwork installation – knit, knot, plait, crochet, or even make a pompom. Participants can join Alyson Minkley for a social stitching session, contributing your own thoughts and stories about isolation and connection to the co-created work Synapse – a series of human-scale cocoons that you can even climb into for a moment of calm contemplation. Or, help Juliet Duckworth as she weaves a human-sized nest out of local recycled materials, mimicking the skills of the birds who built the salvaged nests in her immersive work Urban Rookery.
‘Research shows that creativity is good for us and that it can improve mental health and wellbeing. We often find that working together side by side enables participants to talk freely about things on their minds. We hope that our exhibition will be an enjoyable and inspiring experience for all our visitors and that it will stimulate thought and conversation.’ Alyson Minkley.
