Cardboard Pier: Build it up & knock it down!

From Saturday 26 September to Sunday 27 September, Prince Consort Gardens will be home to an epic, community-built masterpiece inspired by the iconic Grade II* Listed Birnbeck Pier.

Head to Prince Consort Gardens for a weekend of speculator fun: See thousands of cardboard blocks, hand-crafted by local families, youth clubs, schools and members of the community, come together into an incredible 20 metre tall structure!

Bring a picnic and enjoy the weekend:

Saturday – Be part of the build (8am – until it is done and enjoy celebratory buns!). Enjoy entertainment from local shanty band Steepholm

Sunday – Be part of the topple! Come on site from 7am, enjoy yoga at 10am with the topple at 3pm

This project has been made possible thanks to contractor Mackley as part of the social value commitments negotiated within their contract with North Somerset Council. Weston-based Smurfit Westrock has kindly supplied the materials without charge.

Super Culture is supported by Arts Council England. North Somerset Council’s project to restore Birnbeck Pier is funded by over £44m secured from the UK government, The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the National Heritage Memorial Fund and Historic England.
