For You – Laura Porter

Musician Laura Porter shares a live Soundbeam performance about love, loss and the lives that might have been inspired by her father’s story of forced adoption in the 1930s, this nostalgic piece explores the ripples left by childhood separation through adoption, fostering, care, war, evacuation and displacement.

An exploration of home, history and holding on, it is threaded through with love: towards the end, real human voices emerge within the music, each saying the same words: ‘I love you’.

The Soundbeam is a piece of interactive music technology that turns even tiny movements into sound, running on a repeating loop to allow visitors to explore and play it themselves. Laura uses the Soundbeam in her work with Now Hear This Music CIC, which she founded after her dad died during the Covid pandemic. The charity aims to ensure everyone can access inclusive and immersive musical experiences.

Suitable for all ages. The performance takes place in a low-stimulus space for those who need a quieter sensory experience.

Please note: This venue is on a grassy area with a small raised lip. It is possible to get a wheelchair into the area from one part of the edge.

This event is programmed as part of Good Grief Weston. Click here to find out more.
