Good Grief Weston – Have your say on Assisted Dying

Over the coming week it is expected an Assisted Dying bill will be formally introduced in Westminster. A debate and initial vote is likely to take place later this year. It would have to be approved by MPs and peers before it becomes law.

Labour MP Kim Leadbeater is putting forward the bill and said “now is the time” to hold a fresh debate on assisted dying, after MPs rejected a bill on the issue in 2015.

The debate surrounding assisted dying is one of the most challenging and emotional issues we face as a society. It touches on deeply held beliefs about life, death, and human dignity. Your MP, Dan Aldridge wants to carefully listen to both sides of this important discussion, especially from those on the frontline of end-of-life care. This is your opportunity to share your views whilst listening to medical professionals in a debate this Friday.

We will be joined by John Bailey, Director of Patient Services and Dr Fiona Chiplen, Consultant in Palliative Medicine, both at Weston Hospicecare*.  Dan will share his views and set the scene before John and Fiona start to discuss this emotive subject.

*Please note that John and Fiona are presenting the different sides of the debate and the information they present does not necessarily represent their own professional or personal views, or those of Weston Hospicecare.
