Create a Flag to  be part of the Arts + Health Festival

Creating your own bold, expressive flags to represent your communinity. Groups are encouraged to personalise their flags and bring their ideas to life. Whether you’re celebrating your community, sharing a message, or simply exploring creativity together, this is your chance to contribute to a vibrant, collective artwork.

To support you, we’ll be providing flag-making materials which include flag poles and base fabric material, a selection of art materials to get you started.

You can also visit Weston’s community Scrap Store for a free bag of additional reclaimed fabrics and creative art materials to decorate your designs, helping each flag reflect the unique identity, stories and spirit of your group.

Flag Carnival is a collaboration between Super Culture, Alliance Homes, and The All Healthy Living Centre, funded by Without Walls.

Flag Making Guide

Your Flag

Your flag can be any size – big or small. Leave enough space along the edge of your fabric to create a channel for the pole. This can be sewn or stapled. Flags can be created with 1 pole or with 2 poles as a banner.

Gather Your Materials

You are also welcome to use your own materials, or collect flag-making materials from Super Culture, Grove Lodge, Grove Park on Tuesday’s & Thursday’s.

  • Plain off-white calico base fabric with sewn channels, flag poles, art materials.
  • Head to Weston Community Scrap Store to gather a free basket of reclaimed fabrics and creative materials.

Create Your Flag

You can decorate your flag however you like – sew, stitch or stick, draw, paint, print, or combine different materials and textures. Feel free to experiment with a range of mark-making materials – it doesn’t have to be limited to fabric paint.

Design Ideas

This is your chance to contribute to a vibrant, collective artwork. Make it bold, make it meaningful, and make it yours. Think about what’s important to you or your group. What represents your community, identity, values, or story? Will you include words?
