Dear Sea: A Letter Writing and Releasing Ceremony with Poet in Residence, Sophie Dumont
What would you like to say to someone you’ve lost? To a place you can no longer return to? To a past version of yourself, or something that remains unresolved?
In Dear Sea, poet Sophie Dumont invites us to slow down, reflect and put words to what we carry. Through a series of writing prompts, we’ll consider the places that hold our stories, the things we leave behind and the things that stay with us.
Sophie invites us to write a letter to someone or something we’ve lost: a person, a place, a relationship or a former self.
At the end of the session, we’ll gather together at the water for a quiet ceremony. Written on dissolvable paper, our letters can be offered to the tide as an act of acknowledgement, remembrance, promise or release. The sea becomes our archive.
There is no expectation to share what we write. No previous writing experience is needed.
This event is programmed as part of Good Grief Weston. Click here to find out more.
