Free Workshops: Box Clever! Be part of Weston’s extraordinary cardboard pier project

On Saturday 26 September, a giant cardboard installation inspired by the historic Grade II* Listed Birnbeck Pier will take shape in Weston-super-Mare’s Prince Consort Gardens. Created by world-renowned visual artist Olivier Grossetête, the collaborative project invites the local community to help build, erect, and deconstruct the monumental structure, as they learn about some of the remarkable stories associated with the amazing piece of heritage.

Pre-construction workshops

In the lead up to the installation, communities are invited to take part in workshops to help make the building blocks for the Cardboard Pier. During the workshops participants will be supported to shape, tape, cut then assemble cardboard ready to be used in construction. No experience is needed, and the workshops offer a fun, practical look at how scale and engineering work in the real world. Expect a relaxed and laughter-filled environment, where new stories, connections and skills are built alongside the fantastical structure.

Workshops will take place from Friday 18 September to Tuesday 22 September and from Thursday 24 to Friday 25 September in the former Wilko store in the Sovereign, High Street, Weston-super-Mare.
