Weston’s Italian Gardens comes alive with energy and excitement thanks to a series of free circus arts workshops for young people!

Every Monday during the school summer holidays, families from all around the area have taken up the opportunity to learn circus skills with industry professionals at the Italian Gardens.
Presented by Super Culture and supported by Weston BID, Weston-super-Mare Town Council and Arts Council England, Summer Circus Daze has invited locals and holidaymakers alike to take part in a dynamic series of circus skills sessions. Delivered by leading circus arts educators Circomedia in partnership with Weston’s own Tiny Circus, this programme aims to keep young people healthy, active, and creatively engaged throughout the school holidays.

Joining in the fun have been Lily Daisy with hula hoops galore and Community Scrapstore North Somerset with their always impressive array of reused crafting materials and ideas. Diverse Artists Network added to the free offer with sublime facepainting by Angelina, which proved to be very popular.
Caz Llewellin, a ‘Culture Maker’ volunteer at the events said, “Angelina is the most talented and amazing face painter Summer Circus Daze is formidable, the kids and adults love it. Lots of people joined in.”

From juggling to unicycling to plate spinning, Circus Summer Daze has been a way to support physical health and wellbeing and to promote social connection and teamwork by providing accessible, non-competitive and engaging activities for young people during the holidays.
Nick from Circomedia said, “It’s so nice to see kids coming along and just having a great time and learning some really cool circus skills. And it’s not just, you know, “Oh, try a few things out and then go home.” Some kids are coming back every week and learning some really cool skills, which is really great to see.”
The season began with a special hula-hooping comedy show from South American circus troupe Clap Clap Circo, made possible through a Super Culture partnership with Take Art. Dozens of families gathered around at the launch of Summer Circus Daze to enjoy the unique and quirky ‘BORSKA’.
A parent said about the events, “I’ve got my two and four-year-olds here, and they’ve had a brilliant time on all the equipment. It’s really different to have something that’s free and accessible to the public and for all ages. And then being in the summer holidays where we feel at a loss sometimes about what to do other than run around on the beach, so it’s great. It’s been perfect.”
