Good Grief Weston Closing Ceremony – Family Album: Colin Pantall, Deanna Dikeman and John Hegley

How do we grieve the everyday losses of growing up, growing old, and letting go?

In 1991, photographer Deanna Dikeman took a picture of her parents waving as she left their home in Sioux City, Iowa. This photo was the first of a 27-year series created ‘as a way to deal with the sadness of leaving’. Around the same time, poet John Hegley was writing reflections on his own family home and childhood in a Luton bungalow. In 2004, Colin Pantall began ‘Sofa Portraits’, a four-year series of photographing his daughter Isabel growing up on their sofa in Bath.

A new exhibition for Good Grief Weston, Family Album brings these projects into conversation for the first time – exploring the sadness and comfort of family life, and the grief letting go of our parents, our childhoods, and our children as they go off into the world.

Exhibition opens: 5:30pm at The Common Room
