Speakeasy online poetry evening
Theatre Orchard invites you to ‘Spring into poetry’, the second of three monthly Speakeasy springtime events, hosted by Bob Walton and Sue Hill from The Write Box. On 29 April, the community welcomes writer Kim Moore to share with you from her published collections of poetry.
Fancy getting up and sharing your own poem? Speakeasy has an open mic, giving you the opportunity to spit bars, speak up, feel the love. You are invited to take to the Zoom stage for up to 3 minutes (that’s about one side of A4) – just drop becky@theatreorchard.org.uk a line before Monday 26 April to book in.
Kim Moore lives and works in Cumbria. Her first full length collection The Art of Falling was published by Seren in 2015 and won the Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. She won a New Writing North Award in 2014, an Eric Gregory Award in 2011 and the Geoffrey Dearmer Prize in 2012. Kim was one of the judges in the 2018 National Poetry Competition, along with Kei Miller and Mark Waldron and a judge for the 2020 Forward Prizes. Her first pamphlet If We Could Speak Like Wolves was a winner in The Poetry Business Pamphlet Competition, judged by Carol Ann Duffy. If We Could Speak Like Wolves was chosen as an Independent Book of the Year in 2012 and was shortlisted for the Michael Marks Pamphlet Award and the Lakeland Book of the Year Award. Her work has been translated into many languages as part of the Versopolis Poetry Project. Kim completed her doctorate in Poetry and Everyday Sexism at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2020.
