Spray Jam blasts Weston’s Italian Gardens with colour this weekend
Over thirty artists will unleash their imaginations and colour palettes onto purpose built jam boards at the Italian Gardens, in the heart of Weston-super-Mare’s High Street on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September 2024.
Welcoming new faces and returning artists, the S.M.Artjam will be led once again by arts facilitator and Weston resident, Lin Toulcher, and a band of culture-loving volunteers. The Spray Jam kickstarts Weston Wallz, a two week art celebration by the seaside, taking place 31 August to 15 September, which is spear-headed by Upfest and supported by Arts Council England, Weston Town Council, Super Culture and First Bus.
Lin Toulcher, who has gathered artists from across the area for a weekend packed with live painting commented, “Street art and spray jams have always been a passion of mine, so to see Weston-super-Mare now established as somewhere respected and supported by so many around this country is an absolute joy. I need to thank Super Culture, Upfest and all the artists and volunteers for having faith, giving support and advice over the years to make it what it is today, as without any of these people or organisations it would not be possible. Thank you everyone and total respect to you all.”
Weston-based Upfest artist, Beverley Dawn Gustar, returning to her spray jam roots said, “I feel excited that artist’s are getting the chance to express themselves as well as helping to make our town even more colourful.”
Local artist and spray jam first-timer, Lorna Bryce, added, “I’m feeling excited and a bit nervous about my first spray jam. I love the idea of bringing colour and fun art on board using mixed media to Weston. I’ll be getting a bit of help from some artist friends too and my granddaughter is hoping to add a little rainbow unicorn to the board.”

S.M. Artjam and Weston Wallz artists invite passers-by to watch their progress, with no need to book. The Artjam takes place between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 31 August and Sunday 1 September.
