People’s Panel – Southward

Do you want to help shape the arts in Southward?

We are setting up a People’s Panel in the Southward area of Weston – you might live or work in or love the area! You might be a mum or dad, nan or grandad, young or old, curious about the arts or eager to help bring exciting art experiences to your community?

Would you like to be part of creating change and opportunities?

Culture Weston is a local initiative that places culture at the heart of Weston-super-Mare’s daily life and future growth.

We believe in Weston and its residents – we want to continue to illuminate and develop all that makes Weston ‘super’ by listening to and working with the local community. Culture and the arts can transform many different areas of life in Weston including health and well-being, regeneration and talent development.

We want to make exciting things happen in Southward. Do you remember the circus acts in Coniston Green last year? Well, we’re bringing Party in the Park, an outdoor arts festival, back to Southward in summer 2022. We need your to help to make it the best festival ever!

We want to recruit and pay six people to make a People’s Panel in Southward. A group of people that will help us develop, shape and grow ideas for Party in the Park.

So, what are we looking for?

We are looking for people who live, study or work in Southward with a diverse range of skills and knowledge, views and backgrounds. We are committed to equality, diverse voices and ensuring all accessibility needs are met. We also welcome people with no previous experience of working in the arts. In fact, that intrigues us! We want to hear your thoughts and ideas so we can work together to transform the local community. We can’t do this without you!

What to expect?

Culture Weston will meet with the People’s Panel for two hours, four times a year to oversee the development of Party in the Park. You will be an integral part of its development, we will build the future of this project with you.

Each person will be reimbursed £30 for their time at each meeting, regardless of personal circumstance. Feel free to ask us more about how this works.

Our first meeting will take place in the evening on the 7th of March in Southward.

Why is this important?

Because we don’t want to make the decisions without you!
