About the Role

This new role will build relationships with communities across Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset, particularly those currently underrepresented in environmental and outdoor activity, and develop creative opportunities that support curiosity, confidence, wellbeing and connection to the natural environment.

Working at the intersection of culture, nature, health and community engagement, the postholder will collaborate with artists, community organisations, schools, health partners and residents to co-create activities that strengthen relationships with the nationally important and protected Mendip Hills and the natural landscapes on people’s doorsteps.

The Nature Connection Producer will be embedded within the Super Culture team and work closely with colleagues from the Mendip Hills National Landscape Team. The role offers opportunities to contribute to wider Super Culture programme, festivals and partnerships while developing a distinctive programme of creative engagement focused on nature connectedness.

The programme will build on the legacy of the 2 year Arts Council/DEFRA funded programme ‘Nature Calling’, and support people to connect to nature and progress from local, everyday experiences to deeper engagement with the landscape, heritage and communities of the Mendip Hills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build trusted relationships with community groups, residents and partner organisations across North Somerset.
  • Engage proactively with communities currently underrepresented in both cultural and environmental activity, including young people, global majority communities, people experiencing poor physical or mental health, disabled people and neurodivergent communities.
  • Work with communities to identify barriers, opportunities and aspirations relating to nature, climate, landscape and outdoor participation.
  • Develop and deliver creative engagement activities that support nature connectedness, wellbeing and social connection.
  • Support participants to progress from local, doorstep experiences to deeper engagement with the Mendip Hills National Landscape and surrounding countryside.
  • Coordinate and deliver engagement activities in parks, green spaces and countryside locations, including sites within and around the National Landscape.
