Information about the DIASPORA! festival is at https://www.diverseartistsnetwork.com/diaspora/

A diaspora is a group of people who moved away from their original homeland and made a new home somewhere else. Diasporas can span over many generations and include the descendants of the people who first moved. https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/diaspora

By underrepresented we mean, for the most part, artists from the diasporas of countries in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Central and South America. But we acknowledge this is not a definitive list of underrepresented cultures or diasporas.

DIASPORA! is supported by funding from: WECA (West of England Combined Authority) https://www.westofengland-ca.gov.uk/; Arts Council England https://www.artscouncil.org.uk/; Quartet Community Foundation https://quartetcf.org.uk/.

Rising Arts Agency’s ‘Whose Culture?’ report stated 16% of the South West population is made up of people of colour, who are underrepresented in Bristol’s cultural output https://www.rising.org.uk/blog/whose-culture-report

According to Wikipedia, ‘“Global majority” is a collective term for people of Indigenous, African, Asian, Latin American descent, who constitute approximately 85 percent of the global population.’ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_majority
