Festival Club kicks off with a spin!
Festival Club launched in style last week, turning up the energy at Weston’s newest cultural venue with an unforgettable breakdancing workshop led by Seba from Bristol Breakers.
Hosted at Africlub — the new home of Afrifest this July and a space steeped in old-school nightclub atmosphere — the session brought together members of Refugees Welcome North Somerset and the Next Gen youth group for an afternoon packed with movement, music, and connection.
From complete beginners testing out their first top rock steps to confident dancers throwing themselves into the circle, the room quickly filled with cheers, laughter, and serious moves. Participants shared dances from their own cultures and communities, creating a celebration of rhythm and identity that went far beyond the workshop itself.
Seba and the Bristol Breakers crew brought infectious energy and encouragement throughout, showing exactly what their community is all about: inclusivity, creativity, and giving everyone a place to shine. Based in Bristol, the group is dedicated mainly to breaking but welcomes all dance styles, running accessible sessions for children, young people, and adults where beginners and experienced dancers train side by side.
The excitement doesn’t stop there. Bristol Breakers will also be bringing their dynamic performance style to Whirligig Festival this June — with local community members joining them on stage.
Festival Club is only just getting started, with more workshops for all ages and abilities happening throughout May in the run-up to Whirligig. Whether you want to dance, create, move, or simply try something new, there’s a place for everyone.
