Bringing Us Together: A Night of Dance, Tea, and Joy

What more could you need on a rainy November evening than community, tea, cake, and a burst of high-octane energy?  That’s what happened when people from diverse communities gathered at the Friends Meeting House in Weston’s High Street for a special finale of Loves’ “Bringing Us Together” series, featuring Ceyda Tanc Dance’s sold out production of KIZLAR.

The carefully curated evening began with a pre-show Turkish dance workshop, enabling 20 local women of different nationalities to explore movement together.  The resulting sense of fun, confidence and community was palpable. This spirit of togetherness continued as we opened the doors to the wider public, with guests bonding over Turkish tea, coffee, and baklava.

KIZLAR then took centre stage  – a breathtaking celebration of femininity that fuses traditional Turkish folk dance with powerful, athletic movement. The cast’s pace was awe-inspiring, yet they still had enough energy to invite everyone onto the floor for an after-show dance party!

And dance we did!

Weston proved itself to be a town of dancers. This project was about gathering people to share a love of food, music, and culture – and seeing the community move as one made it clear that the evening achieved that.

A huge thank you to Loves for co-hosting and to our partners at Rural Touring Dance Initiative, and to Arts Council England for their support. Most of all, thanks to the women of the workshop and everyone who joined us for the performance  – you made it unforgettable! ❤️
