Whirligig Weekend at Weston-super-Mare

This weekend, ‘Whirligig’, award-winning festival of international outdoor arts, returns with a continental flourish to Weston-super-Mare.    

Presented by Super Culture, the two-day programme will fill Weston’s Italian Gardens with an amazing line-up of circus and outdoor arts shows from UK and Europe. 

Experience the unique energy of this free festival by the sea, taking place on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 6pm, with the programme of acts repeated across each day.

Join the North Somerset Samba Band on Saturday from 11.30am in a musical parade along the High Street to the Italian Gardens, celebrating the start of Whirligig and guaranteed to get you in the festival spirit.  

At the Italian Gardens, enjoy an exhilarating mix of family entertainment including stunning acrobatics, circus, roller-skating, juggling, high-wire, flying wheelchairs, living picture frames, giant arcade games, comedy, cyr wheel, hula hoop, dance and flamenco.

Plus a new, interactive environmentally-themed zone; head-turning walkabout acts; family circus workshops & community activities; artwork and sprayjam exhibition and Festival bar serving a range of locally-sourced drinks and snacks.

Fiona Matthews, creative director at Super Culture, said: “It’s nearly time for Whirligig, one of our favourite weekends of the year! Head down to the Italian Gardens to keep those Summer vibes rolling with this year’s eclectic mix of shows from all over UK and Europe, plus colourful opportunities for Weston’s flamboyant arts community to shine.” 

‘Whirligig’ is made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England and UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. This year’s festival is also supported by partners Without Walls, Circus Around And About 2 and the Rural Touring Dance Initiative. 

Whirligig festival is a green event that reflects Super Culture’s environmental ethos to produce work and create experiences that are as sustainable as possible, supporting and enhancing local communities.
